Instituto Nazionale Espresso Italiano (INEI)
Espresso was invented long ago in Italy and is now appreciated all over the world. Often, economic interests take center stage. However, there have always been people who pass on their profound knowledge of espresso roasting from generation to generation. These people want to preserve and protect the great heritage of the unique Italian espresso culture.
The history of INEI

Since 1998, the Italian National Espresso Institute (Istituto Nazionale Espresso Italiano) has been evaluating the quality of espresso through sensory certification. An excellent espresso is not the result of a purely mechanical process, but rather a product that reflects the passion and expertise of the people who created it.
The institute's goal is to maintain and actively promote this high standard of quality. The seal is intended to serve as a guide and reference for espresso lovers, enabling them to better evaluate different espresso blends.
Standards for evaluating the highest quality espresso coffee

The institute was founded in 1998 after three years of research. Its aim was to define a standard for exceptionally high-quality and authentic espresso. In collaboration with the International Coffee Institute, coffee tasting experts, professors from the Universities of Udine and Turin, and based on thousands of consumer and laboratory tests, objective and measurable characteristics of a genuine Italian espresso were established.
To guarantee the high quality required for this certification, the coffee blend, the equipment used, and the expertise of the staff must all meet the highest standards. When the consumer sees the label... "Espresso Italiano"He can be sure that all criteria have been checked and tested. This espresso meets the highest expectations.
